Xiaomi Invests US$25 Million in India's Hungama Digital Media Entertainment
April 08, 2016

Xiaomi announced it has led a US$25 million funding round for Hungama Digital Media Entertainment, an Indian video and music streaming service provider, reported The Economic Times in India on April 5. The Chinese smartphone firm also will invest along with Hungama's existing investors including Intel Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners. The funding is Xiaomi's first investment into an overseas startup. Hungama has partnered with over 700 content providers and boasts around 65 million active users per month. Xiaomi will integrate Hungama's content services into its Mi platform in the near future, showing its long-term commitment to the fast-growing smartphone market in India. The company entered India in July 2014 and began making smartphones locally one year later.
